PLANS FOR A NEW COSTA SUBMITTED

Parking spaces could be axed for coffee shop

MIDDLESBROUGH could soon be home to another Costa Coffee branch - but 33 shopping centre parking spaces could be axed to make it happen.

Plans submitted to Middlesbrough Council set out an ambition to build a new drive-thru in car park two at the Parkway Centre in Coulby Newham.

If the plans get the go-ahead, it would see the loss of 33 parking spaces.

The 167 sqm building would “complement” the existing retail offer at the Parkway Centre, according to planning documents.

It is argued that the coffee shop would provide existing visitors “an additional, supporting amenity”, and not compete directly with cafes or other similar businesses within the shopping centre.
