BORGES ON WHY HE SWAPPED BORO FOR BRISTOL CITY

- By CRAIG JOHNS

'I didn't expect to leave - but I wasn't fitting in'

Neto Borges is enjoying life on loan at Bristol City. He says the way the players celebrated with the fans after last season's win over Boro at Ashton Gate (inset) helped him decide on the move

NETO Borges admits he just “wasn’t fitting” into Rob Edwards’ new style at Middlesbrough, as he opened up on his decision to leave this summer.

Borges joined Boro last summer from Clermont Foot. After early struggles, he eventually adapted to the English game and established himself as a fan-favourite on Tees-side in Michael Carrick’s side.

However, Edwards’ arrival this summer brought about a change in formation and tactics, with Borges not fancied as an attacking wing-back, while falling to sixth in the pecking order as a centre-back.

He joined Championship rivals Bristol City on a season-long loan at the end of the window, having been involved in only 10 minutes of action in Boro’s first three league games. And so far so good for the Brazilian at Ashton Gate, he’s established himself and started the Robins’ last five games.
