PEOPLE are being invited to share their views on proposals to improve Yarm High Street which were paused earlier this year.

- By GARETH LIGHTFOOT Local democracy reporter

Stockton Council's political leadership hit the brakes on the regeneration scheme just before work was due to start in October following opposition, calls from the Conservatives to postpone the plans and claims the Labour-led authority was “riding roughshod over Yarm”.

Labour leaders said at the time “we will not do things that residents do not want” and, following a petition from a resident, “it has become clear that people wish to have a further say’ with politicians on both sides urging people to make their voices heard.

People can have their say on the proposed scheme - which remains unchanged - until Monday, January 12 next year.

There is an online form and paper copies at Yarm Library, where drop-in sessions will be held on Tuesday, December 16, from 10am to 2pm, and Tuesday, January 6 ,from 10am to 2pm.

The council says the proposed scheme, using part of £20m of levelling up money from the previous government, is intended to create new public spaces.
