Fourth major housing plan in four months

A DEVELOPER has announced plans for almost 500 homes in Yarm, adding to proposals for more 1,200 potential homes for the town in recent months.

Gladman Developments says it is preparing an outline plan for about 495 new homes on fields north of Green Lane, Yarm.

This will be the fourth major housing scheme in as many months to be put forward for the town. The developer wants to build the homes on 23 hectares of agricultural land on the southwest of Yarm surrounded by other homes and open countryside.

It says on a website outlining the proposals: “Land to the north of Green Lane represents a significant opportunity to deliver new housing in a sustainable location.”

A raft of major proposals for the area have prompted concern among residents over issues like road congestion, strain on infrastructure, and wildlife, a petition opposing further development gathered more than 2,800 signatures, and its organiser said the proliferation of housing proposals was “too much too quick” as the town was “at bursting point”.

Other plans include:

Taylor Wimpey’s outline for up to 600 homes, also near Green Lane, which are being considered by Stockton Council and have now attracted more than 480 comments in objection, none in support; Miller Homes’ proposals for 376 homes at Mount Leven with a masterplan including a country park, care home, community centre, farm shop, and padel courts.
