PROSECUTION CASE WITHDRAWN A WEEK BEFORE IT WAS DUE IN COURT
THE family of an adored dad who died after he was hit by a car say they are living a life sentence after the prosecution case against the driver was dropped a week before trial.
Craig Dixon, 39, died from head injuries after he and his dog Duchess were hit by a car in Westgate, in Guisborough, on December 2, 2022. Gurchan Singh was set to stand trial accused of causing death by careless diving.
But a week before the trial was due to begin, in January 2025, over two years after Craig’s death, the Crown Prosecution Service offered no evidence.
The delivery driver, 41, was released by the court and will face no further action.
Duchess, was badly injured in the collision and Craig's family made the heartbreaking decision to put her to sleep.
Now an inquest into the dad’s death heard there is no CCTV footage of the collision but one witness says they believed Singh’s Citroen was speeding in the lead up to the fatal incident.
