Boro's new signing chases American dream in MLS play-offs

ROB Edwards says he isn't having regular contact with Adilson Malanda ahead of his switch to Middlesbrough this winter, and is instead allowing him to get on with his loan at Charlotte.

The centre-back joined Boro in a big-money move this summer from the MLS side.

In order to steal a march on rival clubs to sign the Frenchman, Boro agreed to the terms that saw the 23-year-old return to Charlotte on loan to complete the rest of the MLS season.

Malanda has been hugely impressive for Charlotte and is ranked among the best defenders in the division. He was a regular in a side that recently broke the MLS record for consecutive victories, as they secured their place in the playoffs.
