MIDDLESBROUGH'’S spirited fightback proved agonisingly in vain as they were narrowly beaten at Blaydon.
The hosts held out in the challenging conditions to claim a 31-29 victory.
Boro raced out of the blocks to take a 7-0 after just five minutes thanks to a try and conversion from Aedan Moloney.
But the hosts pulled five back with their first try of the game after nine minutes.
