After learning that most of the damages caused by Typhoon Tino was due to widespread flooding, Cebu City's flood-control projects are sought to be revisited.

This after Councilor Dave Tumulak, who is also the chairman of the Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CCDRRMC), said the local government, with the assistance of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), is eyeing to reexamine the flood control projects in the city.

"Based on the incident that we encountered due to Typhoon Tino, there will be (a need) to revisit. We have to revisit the flood control projects of the city with the help of DPWH," he told the reporters in an interview.

When asked for his opinion on possible ghost or substandard flood-control projects that could have prevented the incident, Tumulak said that he cannot confirm yet if there are any in Cebu City.

Based on reports, multiple barangays, mostly in the city's upland areas, were submerged in floodwaters due to overflowing rivers.

Among these rivers was the Butuanon River wherein its riprap collapsed because of the strong flooding.

He also mentioned that the rivers in the city --including Butuanon, Mahiga, Guadalupe, Buhisan-- are only small, saying it just so happened that the typhoon poured a lot of rainwater and caused the rivers to overflow.

"Ang Butuanon (River), due to heavy g'yud. Heavy g'yud iyahang flooding. Heavy waters g'yud," said Tumulak.
