Rice not fit for consumption given as financial assistance

The Mandaue City Government and the Cebu Provincial Government have agreed to classify the 397 unsold sacks of rice from the Sugbo Mercadong Barato (SMB) program as financial assistance from the Capitol to the city.

Mandaue City Mayor Thadeo Jovito "Jonkie" Ouano told reporters yesterday that, following a meeting with Governor Pamela Baricuatro last Monday, September 15, she approved the move to designate the unsold rice as Special Financial Assistance.

Ouano said the agreement reflects his goal of achieving a “win-win solution” with the provincial government, made possible through the support of Baricuatro.

“Lipay kaayo ko nga gitabangan ta ni Governor Pam, wa g’yuy libog si gov,” Ouano said.

With this arrangement, the city will no longer need to pay the Capitol for the value of the unsold sacks.

“Iyang gisulti mahu’g nalang nga mora’g financial assistance to the city which is nalipay nalang sad mi kay di man sad mi ka-dispose before kay mora’g kung among i-dispose we take the responsibility for it,” said Ouano.
