Public warned: Spreading false information online is a crime

The Police Regional Office 7 (PRO-7) has issued a stern warning to the public: spreading false or unverified informationespecially on social media and digital platforms—is a criminal offense punishable under Philippine law.
This reminder follows a recent incident involving a viral social media post that falsely claimed a robbery had occurred in Mandaue City.
On July 22, 2025, a local radio station posted the unverified report online, triggering fear and confusion among the public. However, upon verification, the Mandaue City Police Office (MCPO) said that no such robbery took place within its jurisdiction.
