Police officer faces raps for shooting colleague

A criminal complaint for attempted murder has been filed against a police officer who shot but missed a fellow officer inside a private cemetery in Barangay Mactan, Lapu-Lapu City earlier this week.

The complaint was filed by the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office (LCPO) before the city prosecutor's office against Police Master Sergeant Jomar Florentino, assigned to the Traffic Enforcement Unit of the LCPO.

Florentino surrendered after his failed attempt on the life of Police Master Sergeant Jade Querubin, also assigned to TEU.

The shooting occurred at around 9:30 a.m. on March 23, while Querubin was inside his private vehicle parked in the cemetery. Florentino allegedly arrived in his own vehicle, approached from about seven meters away, and fired multiple shots.

Querubin managed to duck and avoid being hit, sustaining only a minor injury after a bullet grazed his head.

LCPO Director Agosto Daskeo ordered a thorough and impartial investigation into the incident that resulted in the filing of the criminal complaint. Daskeo also directed the confiscation of the issued service firearms of both officers, who were subjected to paraffin and drug tests, with results still pending.
