President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has declared May 12, 2025-a Monday and election day-as a special non-working holiday nationwide to ensure Filipinos can freely exercise their right to vote.

- Jonnavie Villa Mitchelle Palaubsanon Staff Members

Proclamation No. 878, signed by Executive Secretary Lucas P. Bersamin on behalf of the President, emphasized the need to provide citizens the opportunity to participate in the electoral process without being hindered by work obligations.

"There is a need to declare it a special (non-working) holiday to enable the people to properly exercise their right to vote," the proclamation stated.

COMELEC-7 Regional Director Atty. Francisco Pobe added that this is to give time to the voters to cast their votes and free from exercising their rights.

Under the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), special non-working holiday pay rules will apply.
