Every now and then, Cebu's creative arts circuit comes by exhibits that are not solely about what artists have been up to, but also draws the spotlight on how art institutions play an important role in molding creative vectors and veneers.
"Whispers in Motion", Janice Cancancio, acrylic on canvas
Such a show took place last month - one which served as the 50th anniversary celebration of the Fine Arts program of the University of the Philippines - Cebu.
Curated by Khriss Bajade and spearheaded by the University of the Philippines - Cebu Fine Arts Alumni Association with the support of SM J Mall's Kyureto Art Gallery, the show - titled “Padayon” - brought close to thirty artworks made by different generations of UP Cebu Fine Arts grads - with three artists representing the first decade of the program's crop of creative daubers.
