P218M unused funds eyed as savings to be used for Mandaue City projects
The Freeman
|August 12, 2025
The Mandaue City Council wanted to officially declare as savings a total of P218 million in unused funds (from 2016 to 2024), allowing the amount to be reverted to the city's general fund and reallocated for use in other projects.
-
City Councilor Joel Seno said this is the intent of his authored ordinance, which was approved on first reading during the regular session yesterday, August 11.
Once reallocated, the P218 million will then serve as a supplemental budget to finance at least 12 necessary projects that are expected to be completed this year.
It was learned that the supplemental budget proposal was deferred until the unused funds are officially declared as savings.
Seno said the P218 million consists of unutilized funds from 2016 up to last year, with some projects from that period already deemed unimplementable. These unused funds came from several city projects planned since 2016 that, due to technical reasons, can no longer be continued, he said.
Seno explained: "Like acquisition of right road of way, naa pay namuyo, which dili to siya madali-dali. There are projects also na kinahanglan siya budget-an usa makig-istorya ang people concerned but along the way nagkaaberya."
