MCWD rebuts city councilor's censure on delays, governance

Councilor Harold Kendrick
-
Go, in his privilege speech, had criticized MCWD for "unacceptable" delays, warning that families were still queuing for water more than a month after the typhoon. He pressed the utility agency for accountability, saying the crisis underscored weaknesses in governance and service delivery.
MCWD, in its press statement, emphasized that assessment teams were deployed "just a few hours" after the typhoon, with officials convening the Disaster Management Committee and fanning out across affected sites.
Except for Jaclupan, the MCWD noted that water supply from all in house sources was restored "within days."
It was reported that the Lusaran plant of private supplier JE Hydro has been severely damaged and is currently inaccessible.
Prolonged power outages are hindering repairs, but coordination with JE Hydro and other suppliers is ongoing to expedite full restoration.
On its Talisay City source, MCWD explained that a 2.6 kilometer stretch of its 800 mm Jaclupan transmission line—its largest in house pipeline—was "completely wiped out by the unprecedented flow of the Mananga River."
