The Mandaue City Council has approved a resolution adopting emergency measures to prevent panic buying and hoarding and to stabilize the prices of basic goods and commodities during typhoons and other disaster-related incidents, particularly in light of typhoon Tino.

Councilor Jennifer del Mar, author of the resolution, said the measure aims to remind residents to prepare responsibly and buy only what is necessary during calamities.

“Atong gina-discourage ang panic buying ug hoarding in times of typhoon and other disaster-related incidents kay luoy pud tawn tong walay ikapalit,” she said.

Del Mar said the resolution also reinforces the strict implementation of price stabilization measures.

“Once mag-panic buying, kani pud ang mga negosyante ug mamaligyaay moingon pud og ‘ay daghan og mopalit,’ patas-an pud nila ilang presyo,” she added.

She emphasized that through the resolution, the city highly discourages panic buying and encourages residents to purchase only what is enough.

Mayor Thadeo Jovito “Jonkie” Ouano, in a separate interview, said the city government only wants to remind the public not to take advantage of the situation, especially with typhoon Tino approaching.
