The police have arrested a 42-year-old carpenter who disguised himself as a garbage collector to steal more than P2.2 million worth of jewelry from a subdivision in Barangay Guadalupe, Cebu City, on Tuesday, November 18.
-
According to a report from the Police Regional Office-7, the suspect, whose identity has not been disclosed, was apprehended through the swift and coordinated response of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) - Guadalupe Police Station 9, with the aid of a female witness.
Based on the witness’s account, it was around 5:30 a.m. when she saw the thief enter the victim's room, which was directly across from her own, as she was leaving her room.
She stated that the suspect stole various pieces of jewelry, later valued at approximately P2,245,000, which belonged to a 29-year-old female pilot who lived in the same building.
Fearing for her safety, the witness immediately locked herself inside her room and then reported the incident to the police.
In response to the alarm, operatives from Guadalupe Police Station 9 quickly conducted a followup operation in the area, where they located and arrested the suspect.
Further investigation revealed that the witness also recalled that, a day before the incident, the suspect had introduced himself as a garbage collector.
Investigators also learned that the suspect worked as a part-time tricycle driver and carpenter and had used multiple aliases.
