Madridejos brings back Passion of Christ

After a longsome pause spanning nearly two decades, the Passion play depicting the trial, suffering and death of Jesus will return to Madridejos town in Bantayan Island this coming Holy Week.

The dramatic presentation that was once part of the Lenten tradition of the Lawisanons was first staged in 1994, with the late Alvan Claude Evangelio as director and Cora Rosales-Jayma as scriptwriter of what is then known as "Kalbaryo."

It is for this reason that Pepe Durano-Bacay, the director of the play's large-scale revival this year, wrote and adapted the script from the original concept of Evangelio and Rosales-Jayma.

Now billed as "KRISTO, Ang Manunubos," the threatrical reenactment of the Passion of Christ is spearheaded by Esmermaid Concepts and Coordination with its founder ESmeraldo Villaceran Alfon as production manager and head choreographer.
