LTO-7 loans breathalyzer devices to CPPO

The Land Transportation Office - Region 7 (LTO-7) has turned over five breathalyzer units to the Cebu Police Provincial Office (CPPO) on Thursday, February 19, in a move aimed at strengthening enforcement of Republic Act No. 10586, or the Anti-Drunk and Drugged Driving Act of 2013, across Cebu province.
A Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) formalizing the turnover was signed by LTO-7 Regional Director Francisco Ranches Jr., Cebu Governor Pamela Baricuatro, and CPPO Provincial Director PCol. Abubakar Mangelen Jr.
Under the MOA, the provision of breathalyzers was prompted by the rising number of violations of RA 10586 in the province.
In her message, Baricuatro said the provincial government sought assistance from LTO-7 amid growing concerns over vehicular accidents. She requested the training of CPPO personnel through a deputation seminar to ensure proper enforcement of the law.
"We have come full circle already. We've trained the officers and through the efforts of the LTO, meron tayong breathalyzers sa province ngayon," the governor said.
"This is what happens when national agencies work together for a common goal, which is to make sure na walang drunk drivers dito sa probinsya," she added.
With the newly loaned units, Baricuatro issued a stern warning to motorists who drive under the influence of alcohol.
