LTFRB reminds transport sector of student discount

As the opening of the new school year is fast approaching, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) reminded operators and drivers of public utility vehicles and transport network vehicle services (TNVS) on students’ discount.

LTFRB Chairperson, Atty. Teofilo Guadiz III, said that the 20 percent student discount is not optional and it must be granted on all regular school days, including during summer classes.
“We are reminding all drivers and operators that the 20 percent student fare discount is not optional. It is a right enshrined in law, and violations will be met with strict penalties,” Guadiz said.
This discount applied to all land transport modes including jeepneys, buses, UV Express, taxis, and TNVS units, regardless of whether fare is paid in cash or through digital platforms.
Operators and drivers who refuse to comply will face penalties as this mandate is backed by law, Guadiz said.
