|August 15, 2025
The Liga ng mga Barangay ng Pilipinas has lauded the enactment of Republic Act No. 12232 as a victory for grassroots leadership while calling on barangay officials to use the extended term not as a pause, but as a platform for deeper public service.
-
LnB National President Jessica Dy led the call for renewed commitment, thanking President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for signing the measure and recognizing the lawmakers who pushed for its passage including House Speaker Martin Romualdez, Senator Imee Marcos, Majority Floor Leader Sandro Marcos, and former Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Benjamin “Benhur” Abalos.
“Napakaiksi po ang dalawang taon para magserbisyo sa ating mga komunidad...Ang extra oras na ibinigay po sa atin ay napakalaking biyaya,” Dy said thru a video message over LnB’s page.
Republic Act No. 12232 officially sets the term of office for barangay and SK officials to four years with no elective barangays official to serve for more than three consecutive years and no SK official to serve for more than one term in the same position.
