Lapu-Lapu City solon explains: Outfall absence causes floods

Lapu-Lapu City lone district Representative Junard “Ahong” Chan explained that the absence of an outfall yet is the cause of flooding whenever it rains, that Oponganons experience, particularly in Barangay Basak.

Chan said that, while the city’s drainage project is ongoing, some areas—such as the intersection of Osmeña Street and M.V. Patalinghug Jr. Avenue in Barangay Basak—continue to get flooded.

He clarified that since the construction of the outfall has not yet been completed, the flooding problem has not been fully resolved. “Baha siya because there is no outfall yet,” Chan told The Freeman.

Chan is optimistic that his proposed budget will be approved next year, noting that he has already identified eight flood-prone areas that have been allocated funds.

The congressman assured that the construction of the outfall was included in the budget. He also explained that the drainage project is being implemented in phases due to limited funding.
