Industry leaders seek power collaboration

Industry leaders in Cebu are pushing for stronger collaboration with energy distributors, generators, and renewable power providers to stabilize electricity costs and secure reliable supply, amid mounting concerns that high power rates are undermining the province’s competitiveness.

- By Ehda M. Dagooc

“When we invite investors or new businesses to come to Cebu, the first questions always raised are about power — the cost and the reliability of supply,” said Melanie Ng, PCCI vice president for the Visayas, at the Kapihan 2025 business forum in Cebu City, hosted by Domantay Consulting.

“This is consistently top of mind for businesses, whether in tourism, manufacturing, or MSMEs. That is why we have brought together distributors, generators, and renewable energy players so that companies will have options,” said Ng.

The initiative includes exploring smart technologies, energy efficiency programs, and expanded renewable sources such as solar.

Local governments are also being urged to streamline approvals for power projects and incentivize the adoption of sustainable energy.
