Hybrid extreme sports park soon in Cebu City

Cebuano skateboarders and BMX enthusiasts have come together in a show of solidarity, agreeing to push for a hybrid extreme sports park—not just a skatepark as previously proposed.

This unified call emerged from back-to-back meetings with the Task Force on Extreme Sports, led by Cebu City Councilor Jun Alcover, held in separate venues here last week.

The silent scream for a skatepark has echoed for years, long before Cebu’s own Margielyn Didal catapulted into global fame.

Didal’s rise—from the streets to becoming an Asian Games gold medalist and Olympic finalist-spotlighted Cebu’s raw talent and deep skateboarding culture.

Yet, despite her achievements, the dream of a dedicated skatepark remained elusive, often sidelined by shifting political tides.

Interestingly, it was a local BMX rider who reignited the conversation.

A video taken by Councilor Alcover showed the rider performing stunts on the streets—highlighting the risks faced by athletes without a safe venue.
