Fisherfolk next in line for P20-per-kilo rice
The Freeman
|August 19, 2025
Fisherfolk across the country will soon have access to rice at P20-perkilo, as the Department of Agriculture (DA) expands President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s flagship food security program, “Benteng Bigas, Meron Na!”, to coastal communities.
Starting August 29, subsidized rice will be distributed at fish ports nationwide, marking a major expansion of the initiative initially intended for senior citizens, persons with disabilities, solo parents, and indigent families.
The program has since widened its coverage to include minimum wage earners, beneficiaries of the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s “Walang Gutom” program, and registered farmers and farm workers.
