Econg among 17 vying for Ombudsman post
The Freeman
|August 16, 2025
Cebuana Sandiganbayan Presiding Justice Geraldine Faith Econg is among the 17 applicants for the country’s next ombudsman, based on the official list released by the Judicial and Bar Council (JBC).
-
Justice Secretary Crispin Remulla’s name is also on the list, contrary to an online report last week alleging that he was disqualified because of a pending complaint against him before the Office of the Ombudsman. Both Remulla and the Supreme Court (SC), which supervises the JBC, denied the report.
The JBC confirmed yesterday that Econg and the other aspirants will undergo public feedback and panel interviews. Feedback will be accepted until 4:30 p.m. on August 26 via the JBC’s online survey form at [https://jbc.judiciary.gov.ph/jbc-survey/](https://jbc.judiciary.gov.ph/jbc-survey/) or through sworn complaints, reports, or oppositions submitted by mail, in person at the JBC office at the SC-Court of Appeals Building in Ermita, Manila, or via email to [jbc@judiciary.gov.ph](mailto:jbc@judiciary.gov.ph).
“We want to hear from you! We welcome your thoughts, concerns or comments about the applicants for the position of Ombudsman,” the JBC said on its Facebook page.
