Comelec urged: Continue “Oplan Baklas”

The Cebu Electricity Rights Advocates (CERA) has called on the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) to rigorously implement "Operation Baklas," a campaign aimed at removing illegally posted election materials, citing risks to the region's electricity grid stability ahead of the May 12 national elections.

In a statement, the group warns that unauthorized campaign paraphernalia affixed to electric posts and power infrastructure pose a serious threat to public safety and the integrity of power distribution networks, particularly in mountainous barangays vulnerable to unscheduled power outages.
CERA's appeal draws legal backing from Republic Act No. 11361, also known as the Anti-Obstruction of Power Line Act, which mandates the removal of any structure, vegetation, or object obstructing power transmission corridors. These corridors are critical zones designed to ensure uninterrupted electricity flow from generation to end-users.
