Cebu looking to re-boost tourism

Amid an 18% decline in Korean tourist arrivals, Cebu is taking steps to strengthen flights, gastronomy, and community based tourism to attract a more diverse international market.

In the recently-concluded 23rd East Asia Inter-Regional Tourism Forum (EATOF), Governor Pamela Baricuatro emphasized the significance of hosting the event, saying it solidified Cebu’s role as a key regional player and opened new opportunities for bilateral tourism promotions, visitor exchange programs, and collaborative projects to reconnect with old markets and tap into new ones.
"It will strengthen the connectivity between Cebu and partner countries of EATOF," said Baricuatro.
One direct outcome of the EATOF is Cebu’s ongoing negotiation for direct flights from Cebu to South Korea -aimed at reversing the sharp drop in Korean arrivals. They are optimistic that improving accessibility will rekindle interest among Korean travelers.
Provincial Administrator Ace Durano, a former Department of Tourism secretary, described the 18% decline in Korean arrivals as “unprecedented” and requiring immediate attention.
