Cebu City marks Bonifacio Day with call for integrity, courage

December 01, 2025

Amid efforts to curb massive corruption in the country, Cebu City officials marked the 162nd birth anniversary of Andres Bonifacio with a call to confront injustice through courage, honesty and unity—stressing that true heroism lies not in power, but in the willingness to act for the nation.

Mayor Nestor Archival and Cultural and Historical Affairs Commission (CCHAC) Commissioner Atty. Marlouize Villanueva underscored that Bonifacio's legacy is not confined to the battlefield.

It lives on, they said, in every citizen who refuses to normalize wrongdoing, in every public servant who chooses integrity over convenience, and in every community that demands accountability and shared progress.

Villanueva noted that Bonifacio Day is unique among national holidays as it commemorates the hero's birth rather than his death.
