All is set for the start of the local campaign period today, March 28, 2025, as political parties across the country, including in voterich Cebu, prepare for rallies, masses, and other campaign activities.
With the start of the campaign, which will run until May 10, 2025, excluding Maundy Thursday on April 17 and Good Friday on April 18, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) is reminding candidates and their supporters to strictly follow election rules rules and regulations.
Violations, including oversized campaign materials, failure to disclose the funding sources of campaign ads, and placing materials in prohibited areas, will be penalized under the Omnibus Election Code.
Comelec-7 regional director Atty. Francisco Pobe urged candidates to inquire with the electoral body if unsure about any guidelines.
“By and large, we hope no violations will be committed during the campaign period,” said Pobe. He also reminded local government units (LGUs) to allow candidates to use public spaces for rallies, provided they follow proper procedures.
CEBU CITY KICK-OFF
In Cebu City, local political parties are starting their campaigns with solemn masses and other activities. Partido Barug-BagOng Sugbo-Team Rama, led by Mayor Mike Rama, will begin the day with a 5 a.m. mass at the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral.
Rama, who is seeking re-election, said they aim to have a simple start of campaign. In the evening, Rama and Vice Mayor Donaldo Hontiveros will lead a series of activities in the North and South Districts.
