Call for simple Christmas backed
The Freeman
|December 09, 2025
Environmental group EcoWaste Coalition and Cebu-based non-government organization Action for Nurturing Children and Environment (ANCE) have expressed full support for Cebu Archbishop Alberto Uy's appeal for a simple and meaningful celebration of Christmas 2025 as communities continue to recover from recent natural disasters.
The two groups aligned themselves with the pastoral call issued by Uy last November 24, urging the faithful to practice compassion, simplicity, and solidarity with the poor amid the widespread devastation brought by earthquakes, typhoons, and floods.
ANCE executive director Rhoy Dizon said the organization strongly supports Uy's appeal, especially for families affected by calamities who are still trying to rebuild their lives.
"As a community-based NGO here in Cebu, we are fully aware of the challenges facing millions of our kauban following the heartbreaking calamities," Dizon said, "we therefore support the very timely appeal for solidarity by Archbishop Uy and similarly encourage everyone to let the simplicity of Christmas bring cheer and hope to the disaster survivors.
