Archival orders sustained crackdown vs dispatchers

Cebu City Mayor Nestor Archival has ordered a sustained crackdown on illegal dispatchers at the pier area while also urging residents to stop giving alms directly to mendicants, stressing that both strict enforcement and “disciplined compassion” are needed to protect the public and help reintegrate vulnerable groups into society.

Archival said operations against dispatchers who mislead passengers into paying fixed “pakyaw” fares instead of metered rates have already begun under the supervision of Cebu City Police Office Director Col. George Ylanan.

He noted that complaints have continued to mount from passengers including locals—who were promised metered rides but ended up being charged higher fixed rates.

“I was telling them to make sure nga ang atong mga katawhan ug dumodoong maprotektahan nato... safe,” he told reporters.

To sustain enforcement efforts, Archival committed to provide 25 motorcycles and 25 vehicles for police and city enforcers next year despite limited resources.

“Nagkinahanglan ta’g sakyanan. We will order sakyanan within next year, bahala’g dili daghan,” he said.
