As we wind up all our activities before the year ends, it’s worth contemplating on the most significant events in geopolitics.

The world is becoming smaller with technology. We need to learn from the events of 2025 so that by 2026, humanity shall hopefully become wiser.2025 will be remembered for the escalation of armed conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza as a proximate consequence of the erratic relations between Washington and Moscow. 2025 was also when China increased its disruptive actions in the West Philippine Sea. Donald Trump took his oath as the 47th U.S. president on January 20 and started to wreak havoc not only with U.S. civil liberties but also the global balances of power. Trump's weaponization of the tariff is becoming the new tactic to make weaker nations his virtual vassals.

In January, Bulgaria and Romania completed the process of removing land border controls by joining the Schengen cartel. Indonesia became the tenth member of BRICS. In Croatia, President Zoran Milanovic was reelected for a second term. In Belarus, President Alexander Lukashenko was reelected too. Ahmed Al-Sharaa was appointed Syria president following the fall of the Assad regime. There was a Potomac midair collision between a Black Hawk helicopter with three people on board and a bombardier plane carrying 64 passengers. All died.
