Amid the Diwali rush, the Pune Railway Division collected Rsl.14 crore in fines from 10,603 passengers caught travelling without valid tickets between Oct 17 and Oct 27.
The crackdown coincided with the festive season, which sees a sharp rise in passenger movement across the region.
According to officials, special teams were deployed to conduct surprise inspections across major railway stations and trains, including Pune, Lonavala, Daund, Satara and Kolhapur. The move aimed to ensure compliance with ticketing regulations and curb habitual offenders.
