Gadag farmer attempts suicide over crop compensation delay

In a deeply distressing incident, a farmer from Belleri village in Naragund taluk, Siddanagouda Hiregoudar (55), attempted suicide by consuming poison inside the revenue office at Konnur village, Gadag district.

The act was reportedly driven by frustration over the nonpayment of crop loss compensation.

Siddanagouda had cultivated sorghum and onions on four acres of land, which were severely damaged due to heavy rains and flooding from the Malaprabha river. Despite the losses, his crop damage was allegedly not recorded in the official system.
