BJP links minister with gold heist
The Free Press Journal
|October 28, 2025
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has accused V. N. Vasavan, Minister for Devaswom Affairs, of links to the alleged theft of gold plating from the idol guardians and demanded his resignation.
The party contends the minister has "clear linkages" to individuals implicated in siphoning off around 4.5 kg of gold from temple artefacts.
The BJP's state president, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, said the party had obtained "government sources" suggesting the minister's involvement. While stating the party was not prejudging guilt, he insisted Vasavan step aside until the probe completes.
