Comedy in Hindi cinema was rarely portrayed seriously. Many relied on exaggerated expressions, loud dialogues, or cheap humour, making scenes unpalatable for families. Very few approached comic roles with subtlety and depth.
Legends like Mehmood and Johnny Walker set the stage, and Govardhan Asrani, fondly known as Asrani, carried the tradition forward with maturity and precision.
