PCMC to cancel BRT violators’ licences now

Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has decided to take strict measures against drivers entering Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lanes without authorisation.

Officials said on Wednesday that such offenders would face cancellation of their driving licences. The Traffic Branch of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate (PCPC) has received a proposal in this regard.

PCMC officials noted that despite fines imposed by traffic police, private vehicle encroachment on BRT corridors has increased. The lanes were built exclusively for Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) buses, but in areas such as Pimple Saudagar, Pimpri, Wakad and Nigdi, unruly drivers continue to misuse them, causing congestion on main roads.
