Mental health crisis deepens in Gujarat, anxiety up 400%

Gujarat is facing a silent epidemic — one that can't be seen but is felt deeply.
In the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, mental health disorders have surged across the state, with anxiety cases rising by nearly 400% and depression by 300%, according to psychiatrists and health experts.
What was once a taboo subject is now becoming a growing public health concern. “The pandemic didn't just affect physical health — it triggered emotional and psychological aftershocks that continue to unfold,” said Dr. P. Mehta, a leading psychiatrist in Ahmedabad.
