When anti-corruption sleuths went hunting for cash, they stumbled upon a retired engineer’s sticky empire — dripping in gold, silver, cottages, and 17 tonnes of honey

- FPJ News Service

Bhopal has seen scams, stings and shady deals before — but never one that came with a side of honeycombs.

When the Madhya Pradesh Lo-kayukta raided retired Public Works Department Chief Engineer GP Mehra’s homes on Thursday, they expected the usual trappings of corruption —a few lakhs in cash, some jewellery, maybe a car or two. What they found instead could only be described as The Sweetest Scandal Ever Told.

The early-morning raids, carried out by four Deputy Superintendent of Police—rank officers, spanned four locations — Mehra’s two residences in Bhopal, his farmhouse in Narmadapuram district, and an industrial unit in Govindpura. What started as a disproportionate assets probe turned into a treasure hunt — complete with gold, silver, luxury cars, construction projects and, unbelievably, tonnes of honey.
