As part of the city’s royal Dussehra festivities, Kolhapur celebrated the 191st anniversary of the historic Nagarkhana (drum house) on Oct 2 with a cultural programme titled Kolhapurchi Shauryagatha (Kolhapur’s Saga of Valour).

- Staff Reporter

The Nagarkhana was first opened to the public on Oct 2, 1834. This year, the anniversary coincided with Vijayadashami. A ‘Mangaltorar’ (auspicious festoon) with a copper pot was tied to the arch of Bhavani Mandap by Kolhapur MP Shahu Maharaj Chhatrapati and District Collector Amol Yedge. The event has been organised for the past 40 years by the Hillriders Adventure Foundation.

“This initiative is the pride of Kolhapur,” said the MP.
