GST raids rock garba events in Surat and Ahmedabad

|October 02, 2025
The glittering lights of Navratri garbas dimmed under the glare of tax authorities as the GST department launched major raids on ‘Golden Navratri’ organizers in Gujarat’s two biggest cities— Surat and Ahmedabad.
Acting on public complaints of open looting through overpriced passes, water, and parking fees, teams of GST officials swooped down on prominent garba venues, sparking uproar in the multi-crore garba industry.
According to officials, a joint team of more than 10 GST officers carried out the operation. “We have received credible inputs that garba organizers are charging far above the permissible rates. The investigation will determine whether they are properly registered and paying due taxes on the massive revenues being generated,’ a senior GST source said.
