Cough syrup deaths spur Centre-State crackdown

An investigative team from Madhya Pradesh executed inspections at the Tamil Nadu pharmaceutical facility accused of producing the contaminated cough syrup believed to have caused multiple child deaths from acute kidney failure.
The factory has been sealed and local police in Tamil Nadu are collaborating in the probe.
Authorities in Madhya Pradesh report that at least 20 children have died following consumption of the syrup brand “Coldrif” while five others are in critical condition in hospitals in Nagpur.
The deputy chief minister of the state confirmed the figures and said action is underway to apprehend those responsible.
