Bldr jailed for failing to pay compensation

The State Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission (SCDRC) has sentenced a proprietress of Malad-based Kiran Constructions, to three years' simple imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs10,000 for failing to comply with its 2015 order.
The order was delivered by a bench comprising Justice SP Tavade and member Vijay C Premchandani on an execution application filed by complainant Anthony Alfred Tellis, a Malad resident. The 2015 order had directed the builder Vilasini N Naik to pay Rs55 lakh as compensation to Tellis for not handing over possession of a flat he booked in 1984.
