State drug control officials in Tamil Nadu have intercepted a widespread illegal trade in medical termination of pregnancy kits following a distress case at a Primary Health Centre in Karur district.

A woman whose abortion remained incomplete after using unsupervised pills triggered the investigation, which led to the seizure of 6,720 kits and arrests of multiple suspects.
