CPI ministers likely to skip the next meeting of the state Cabinet

The Communist Party of India (CPI) has stuck its position that a leftist government cannot be part of Pradhan Mantri Schools for Rising India (PM-SHRI) initiative and a meeting between Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and CPI state secretary Binoy Viswam failed to resolve the issue.

CPI sources signalled that its ministers may abstain from the upcoming Cabinet meeting on Wednesday. Binoy Viswam told newspersons that the issue continues unresolved and the party state council will take a final call on the next course of action.

"We didn't get a solution to the problems we raised, although the meeting was cordial. Our issues remain. Further decisions will be announced later," Viswam said.

The PM SHRI scheme has already been introduced in several other states, and its proponents argue that it will provide much-needed funds
