Sewage spills foul Pawana River

Pimpri-Chinchwad residents complain of unbearable stench and mosquito menace as sewage leaks pollute the city's lifeline

Sewage-mixed water is being released into the Pawana riverbed at several points, polluting what is considered the lifeline of Pimpri-Chinchwad.

The problem has been reported from Pimple Gurav, Navi Sangvi, and Juni Sangvi-areas that lie along the river's route at the edge of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) limits. The resulting stench and filth have raised serious health concerns among residents, who have demanded immediate action from the civic administration. According to reports, the Pawana River runs through Pimpri-Chinchwad for 24.40km. Large residential colonies are located along its banks, particularly in Pimple Gurav, where a sewage line network has been installed. However, residents complain that the lines are leaking and manhole covers are overflowing, allowing untreated sewage to enter the riverbed and further contaminate the already polluted waterway.
