Floral mastery creates a live Pookkalam at Alappuzha farm

A striking fusion of agricultural innovation and cultural artistry has emerged in Kanjikuzhi, where farmer S P Sujith Swaminikarthil has transformed his field into a vibrant, living Onam pookkalam.

Spanning a considerable radius, this cultivated floral carpet departs from the conventional use of freshly picked blossoms, drawing widespread admiration and dozens of visitors to his farmland.

Sujith has planted over fifteen species—such as bendhi, vadamulla, jamanthi, thechi, among others including green chili and spinach—in meticulously planned concentric rings across six cents of land. The arrangement forms a living artwork with a 24-metre radius, an effort he invested roughly ₹25,000 to create.
