Stronger imports and steady domestic demand help tax revenues remain firm despite recent rate rationalisation and state-level variations

- Business Desk

India’s Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections continued their steady upward trajectory in February, with gross revenues rising 8.1% year-on-year to over %1.83 lakh crore, signalling resilient consumption trends despite recent rate rationalisation.

The latest data shows gross domestic revenue growing 5.3% to around ¥1.36 lakh crore, while revenues from imports recorded a sharper 17.2% surge to Rs 47,837 crore. The stronger import component indicates robust trade activity and improving demand conditions, PTI reported on Sunday.

Total refunds during the month rose 10.2% to Rs 22,595 crore, reflecting efficient processing and compliance mechanisms.
