Eclipses — Some Facts Not Well Understood

A lunar eclipse occurs on a Full Moon (Poornima) when the Earth's shadow obscures the Moon, either fully or partially.
But why doesn't this happen on every Full Moon? The reason is that the Moon's orbit is tilted about 5° with respect to Earth's orbit around the Sun. These two orbital paths intersect at two points known as "Nodes" (called Rahu and Ketu in Indian astrology). Since they are simply points of intersection, Rahu and Ketu are not actual planets.
